Former Haesco Schmidt & Co GDR caviar table cooler - DDR
Old ceramic and glass caviar table cooler.
This table cooler with a modernist design dates from the mid-20th century.
It was initially used to keep caviar cool at dinner parties.
It was manufactured by the firm Haesco Schmidt & Co in the former East Germany, then under Russian occupation, to allow the occupants to keep the famous Beluga caviar cool.
It is made of a ceramic piece covered with glass.
The manufacturer's label is no longer present but its origin is beyond doubt.
It dates from the 1950s.
The mirror effect is obtained thanks to a layer of reflective paint which is covered with a thin film of glass. The effect thus obtained gives an impression of metal.
The thin glass film is barely detectable.
The cooler is enhanced with a cream-colored glazed ceramic base and a geometrically curved handle.
It will perfectly accommodate caviar but also butter, sauce or even ice cubes.
The whole remains in very good condition.
The trace visible under the lid is that of the glue located under the piece of glass.
There are a few small marks located between the glass film and the silver paint but this does not detract from the general aesthetics of the cooler.
There are no chips or cracks.
