Old religious alphabet style embroidery by Germaine Louis in Martigny (50)
Old religious embroidery in popular art style.
Text: Jesus Mary God Sees me.
This embroidery was made by Germaine Louis in March 1920 in Martigny (in Manche).
This embroidery is under glass with a stucco frame which, it seems, has been re-gilded with spray paint.
Frame dimensions: 72 cm x 60 cm.
The embroidery canvas has a few small holes in places.
A modern white lace was added to certainly hide the imperfections of the embroidery outline. The embroidery canvas may have been shortened, I'm not sure.
The embroidery threads are damaged in places, mainly at the frieze bordering the embroidery, but also at the date which still seems to indicate March 1920.
The frame is in good condition with some small losses on the stucco.
Embroidery must certainly be handled with great care if you wish to take it out of its old frame.
This embroidery has a lifespan of over 100 years and is by no means in new condition. It must therefore be taken into account that despite a rigorous selection and description in order to present a quality set, it may contain minimal defects caused by the passage of time in addition to those indicated in the description. To have an impeccable condition, I invite you to turn to new or more modern objects.
